It is normal for you to feel like your braces “stick out” once you have them put on. This feeling will subside within a few days when you grow accustom to having braces on your teeth. You may find that applying small amounts of wax over your brackets or using over-the-counter medications such as ibuprofen or Tylenol may help alleviate any discomfort you may experience the first couple of days after the braces are applied to your teeth.
We will instruct you how to properly brush and floss your teeth while in braces. We will also go over any general guidelines for taking care of your braces, such as what foods to avoid.
During your treatment, you may experience some of the following:
- Tender cheeks, teeth and tongue
- Difficulty chewing
- Gaps between the upper front teeth
- Loose teeth
- Overactive salivary glands
Rest assured, these are all normal and only last a short time.
